Increased bus traffic and new investments in Umeå
When the winter timetable is introduced on 30 September 2024, there will be a significant increase in city traffic in Umeå. In addition to expanding traffic during rush hour, we are also investing in a new direct line between Umedalen and Ersboda via Västerslätt's industrial area.
Thanks to increased travel - which means that Ultra has passed ten million trips per year - there is a significant investment in city traffic in Umeå ahead of the winter timetable 2024. The start of service on September 30 means 8 new buses and many more trips. The routes that will be extended during peak hours are lines 2, 5 and 8.
"This feels really good. This is the largest single investment in over ten years. With more trips, we can accommodate more bus passengers during the rush hour and can hopefully pass eleven million trips per year by 2025," says Fredrik Forsell, Public Transport Manager Umeå Municipality.
On line 2, which runs between Ersboda and Söderslätt's shopping area via Umeå city centre, and line 5, which runs via Ersmark and Strömpilen via Umeå city centre, there will be 12-minute traffic instead of 15-minute traffic. All additional regular buses on lines 2 and 5 are articulated buses. On line 8, the 5-minute service from Tomtebo will be extended during the morning rush hour.
New direct route between Umedalen and Ersboda
In addition to the expansion, the new direct line, line 79 between Umedalen and Ersboda, will also start via the Västerslätt industrial area. With the new line, you can quickly and easily reach major destinations in the Ersboda shopping area and in western Umeå.
Most services on route 79 are coordinated with route 81, which continues out into the Klockarbäcken industrial area. At Västerslätt, the line will arrive at the new stop Godsvägen. At Ersboda, the new line starts/ends at the Fogvägen stop, which creates easy changes to lines 1, 2 and 5.
