Before the trip
Everything you can find out before your trip improves the conditions for your bus trip. Below is important information for those who travel with assistive devices, mainly wheelchairs.
We are constantly working to create new opportunities for you to access information before your trip. Together with municipalities and authorities, we are also working to ensure that the conditions for getting to and from the bus are constantly improved. In our travel planner you can see which trips are accessible. They are marked with a picture of a person sitting in a wheelchair.
Safe and secure
We work regularly with traffic safety and to ensure that all our passengers feel safe in our traffic. This has resulted in new guidelines that will come into force from 1 November 2021.
Before travelling, passengers with wheelchairs need to know and follow what is stated in the wheelchair's instructions for use regarding transport in vehicles. Before travelling, the traveller must be able to ensure that:
- The dimensions of the wheelchair are a maximum of 1200 mm long and 700 mm wide.
- The wheelchair plus passenger weighs a maximum of 300 kg together.
- The wheelchair is approved for use as a seat while driving according to the wheelchair's user manual, and you must follow the wheelchair manufacturer's recommendations on how the wheelchair should be equipped during transport.
- The power wheelchair is intended for indoor use, or combined indoor and outdoor use according to the user manual. Electric outdoor wheelchairs have a turning radius that is not compatible with the space in the bus and therefore cannot be taken on board.
In regional traffic, Länstrafiken recommends that passengers with wheelchairs primarily move to a regular seat on the bus if possible. The driver then straps the wheelchair onto the wheelchair space. Most wheelchair manuals recommend that the passenger should primarily move to the regular seat in the vehicle while driving.
Passengers may remain in a wheelchair while travelling if the instructions for use allow the wheelchair to be used as a seat while travelling, and the passenger must follow the wheelchair manufacturer's recommendations on how the wheelchair should be equipped during transport. If it is not permitted to use the wheelchair as a seat while travelling according to the wheelchair's instructions for use and the passenger cannot move to a regular seat on the bus, the passenger cannot travel on the bus. The traveller is then not entitled to a replacement trip.
Provide the driver with information about your specific wheelchair model
Passengers need to provide the driver with information about their specific wheelchair model. If the passenger has difficulties communicating with the driver, the passenger should bring an escort.
It is the driver's responsibility to assess whether the journey can be carried out in a safe manner. As a traveler, you can help the driver by gaining knowledge about your particular wheelchair model. If you need to know more about your wheelchair model, please refer to your wheelchair's user manual, contact your wheelchair manufacturer or your prescriber for information.
As a traveller, you can make it easier for the driver and contribute to faster attachment of the wheelchair by finding out before the journey where the attachment points are on your wheelchair and whether the attachment points are made of carbon fibre. If the attachment points are made of carbon fibre, the wheelchair should be secured with textile straps and not with a hook.
Plan your trip by getting information about parking options, safety, timetables and more.
